Marcus Rashford’s situation at Manchester United has become complicated as the January transfer window is nearing its closure.

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has not appeared for the club since the beginning of December and has been linked with an exit all January.

Yet the 27-year-old remains at the club and there are no guarantees that he will leave before the deadline hits.

Ruben Amorim has explained that it is the winger’s training levels which are the reason behind his absence from match-day squads.

Richards reveals stunning message from Rashford camp

Micah Richards has been speaking about the situation and explained what he has been told from people close to the player.

The former Manchester City defender suggests that Amorim’s comments about Rashford have been a tactic from the club to push the player out of the door.

“It’s so sad, I mean just looking it from a human perspective, in terms of a player of all that ability, the fact that the manager calls you out publicly,” Richards began on the Rest is Football podcast.

“It doesn’t really sit well with me – not just me, but the fact that I would love to know the full story.

“I would love to because I’ve got people who are close to Marcus texting me saying it’s a tactic because they want to get rid of him, that’s what I’ve heard.”

Speaking further on Rashford not training well enough, Richards added: “If that is the case, why haven’t they just got rid of him?

“Like why has he not got on a loan or why don’t they say they will take the loss of some of the wages… if he’s that much of a problem, why is he still training?

“I’ve heard he’s sometimes training with the Under-23s, sometimes he’s training with the first team, I just don’t get the whole situation, it’s bizarre.”

United do not need Rashford drama right now

You can certainly take those comments with a pinch of salt but this situation is simply not what is needed at United right now.

There are more than enough issues and Amorim doesn’t need a repeat of the Jadon Sancho situation during Erik ten Hag’s reign.

Rashford departing on loan seems to suit all parties for now, but if that isn’t able to happen then a solution must be found for the rest of the season.

Having the player sit out of games for the rest of the season would only add fuel to the fire and make Amorim’s job a lot more difficult.

There are no reasons why Rashford cannot be a useful player for United until the end of the season, and then the player and club can assess the best course of action.
