Paul Scholes slams one Erik ten Hag tactic in which Man United are “miles behind” Liverpool
Paul Scholes has slammed one Erik ten Hag tactic in which Manchester United are “miles behind” Liverpool.
Manchester United suffered a 3-0 defeat against rivals Liverpool on Sunday afternoon in a dismal display from Erik ten Hag’s team.
The Reds had an early scare when Trent Alexander-Arnold’s goal was disallowed for offside after a VAR review. However, it didn’t take long for the visitors to take the lead.
Casemiro lost possession, leading to a goal by Luis Diaz. The scenario repeated itself for Liverpool’s second goal just before half-time.
Even after the Brazilian was substituted before the start of the second half, Ten Hag’s tactics remained highly questionable. Kobbie Mainoo was the player to be dispossessed, leading to the third and final goal.
The two players in the engine room found major difficulties against the opposition. Bruno Fernandes also struggled in the middle of the park.
Former United midfielder Paul Scholes believes that it was a “big problem” for Ten Hag’s side during the game.
“It was a difficult afternoon, but they have to realise what they are playing against,” he told Premier League Productions.
“We know Man United has work to do. The centre of the pitch is a big problem. I thought Liverpool were miles ahead of Man United.”
Speaking after the game, Ten Hag said: “It’s clear Liverpool deserved the win. We have to be humble, take this and improve our game.
“The first two goals, you cannot change when you make such mistakes against a good team like Liverpool, they will kill you.”
Ten Hag’s team will face Southampton once the international break ends later this month.
