Paul Scholes and Michael Owen have both agreed on a worry about Kobbie Mainoo following Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United fought back to earn a gripping 2-2 draw against league leaders Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, as Rúben Amorim’s side demonstrated resilience and determination in a thrilling encounter.

The match began with United looking sharp and composed, aiming to control the tempo and frustrate Liverpool’s high-powered attack. Despite the hosts’ pressure, United carved out opportunities, with Rasmus Højlund nearly breaking the deadlock before halftime.

After the break, United struck first, as Lisandro Martínez powered a clinical finish past Alisson, with Bruno Fernandes providing a perfectly weighted assist. However, Liverpool responded swiftly, with Cody Gakpo equalising just before the hour mark to reignite the contest.

The home side then took the lead when Mohammed Salah converted a penalty following a controversial handball decision against Matthijs de Ligt. Trailing 2-1, Amorim made a bold tactical change, bringing on Alejandro Garnacho to bolster the attack.

The move paid off, as Garnacho’s incisive play set up Amad Diallo for a composed equaliser with ten minutes to go. The closing stages saw both sides push relentlessly for a winner, creating chances at either end, but neither could find the decisive goal.

In the end, the spoils were shared in a pulsating contest, with United leaving Anfield with a hard-earned point and their fighting spirit intact.

Owen and Scholes agree on worry about Mainoo

Speaking after the game to Premier League Productions, former United players Michael Owen and Paul Scholes agreed that there is a significant worry surrounding Kobbie Mainoo.

The pundit duo said it’s a worry that Mainoo does not finish a lot of games. Of his 15 starts this season, Mainoo has only completed 90 minutes on six occasions.

“Mainoo with his legs has to be a worry,” Scholes said when discussing who should play in midfield. “He doesn’t finish a lot of games.”

Owen agreed, replying: “He looks heavy, but yeah, he tires a lot, doesn’t he? And it’s one thing he’s an unbelievable player, but if there’s one thing about Mainoo, it’s getting around the pitch and his ability to last a full game at the high intensity that’s needed.

“And then you look at the other alternatives. You’ve got [Christian] Eriksen that’s getting on in years. Casemiro that’s never been that mobile but getting on in years. So, I guess you’re left with [Manuel] Ugarte and another. You’re left with Ugarte.”
