Paul Scholes demands Man Utd sign “superstar” instead of Bryan Mbeumo, Rúben Amorim already has £60m green light

Paul Scholes has urged Manchester United to sign a “superstar” over Bryan Mbeumo this summer, with Rúben Amorim already receiving the green light for a £60 million deal.

Manchester United are closing in on their second signing of the summer, having already confirmed the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this month.

The 26-year-old Brazilian international is expected to complete his £62.5 million transfer after returning from international duty, at which point he will sign a five-year contract with the club.

But Rúben Amorim’s search for attacking options isn’t over yet. United are now increasingly confident of landing Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, with the player expressing a strong desire to join the Old Trafford side.

Although a bid worth up to £55 million was turned down by Brentford last week, negotiations remain ongoing, and Amorim’s team are eager to get the deal over the line quickly.

Scholes urges United to look elsewhere

With the domestic season having ended last month, the latest round of international fixtures is coming to a close, with England suffering a 3-1 loss against Senegal in a friendly match in Nottingham.

One of England’s only bright sparks across the 90 minutes was Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, who has gone from strength to strength at Selhurst Park this season while also confirming his status as an England regular.

The “superstar” player has a £60 million release clause in his contract with United, reportedly “keen” on the 26-year-old. However, he plays in a similar position to the one Mbeumo would take up under Amorim, as a wide attacking midfielder.

With Palace boss Oliver Glasner reportedly giving the green light for Eze to leave this summer should they receive a bid that matches his release clause, former United midfielder Paul Scholes has demanded that United sign Eze by leaving a photo of the player up on his insgragram story with the caption “just buy him…”, as can be seen below.

United have already picked Mbeumo over Eze

Unfortunately for Scholes, and no matter how good Eze is, United have already decided that they want to secure Mbeumo as the right-sided attacker in Amorim’s new-look front three.

Eze has been a talisman at Palace since Michael Olise elected to sign for Bayern Munich last summer, but Mbeumo has been equally as good, if not better. The Cameroon international netted 20 Premier League goals last season in what was a stunning campaign.

Former United shot-stopper Ben Foster only had positive words to say about the signing, stating that he feels Mbeumo could start for any side in the Premier League.

“Do you know what the beauty of Bryan Mbeumo is, right?” said the former goalkeeper. “Nobody here would question him at all. I’m not questioning Bryan Mbeumo about his ability, about his mentality, about what he is as a person.”

“I’ve got no worries. There is nothing to show me I should have any worries about him. Whoever he goes and plays for, I think he would improve. I think he gets into the starting lineup.”

Foster added: “He’s got a proven record of being fit and scoring goals. He could get into, I’m not joking, pretty much all 20 Premier League teams, and I think he starts. That’s how good I think Mbeumo is.”
