Paul Scholes agrees with Manchester United fans about Ruben Amorim mistake, he cannot believe one decision
Manchester United won 2-1 against Leicester City on the weekend but the performance was far from pleasing and Paul Scholes disagreed with one key decision in the game.
Manchester United secured progression to the FA Cup fifth-round after a comeback victory against Leicester City at Old Trafford.
United were sluggish in the first half and rightfully went into the break trailing 1-0. Ruben Amorim introduced Alejandro Garnacho at halftime, and the winger brought much-needed pace and urgency to the game.
The Argentine played a crucial role in setting up Joshua Zirkzee’s equalizer. Although United improved, their performance remained somewhat inconsistent.
In the dying moments, Harry Maguire scored the winner with a header from a set-piece. He appeared to be offside, but with no VAR available, the goal stood.
Scholes criticises Amorim for Dorgu position
One of the most surprising aspects of the game came immediately after kick-off, when it was noticed that new signing Patrick Dorgu was playing at right wingback.
Many expected the left-footed Danish international to come in and play at left wingback due to the struggles in that position this season.
It was something that fans criticised Amorim for and Paul Scholes also expressed his opinion on the decision on Instagram.
Writing on his story, Scholes wrote: “Inverted wing-backs… you saw it at OT [Old Trafford] first.”
United need improvement at left wingback
Amorim explained after the game that Dorgu has played on the right at Lecce, which suggests that it is not a strange decision to place him there. He also suggested it is something that could continue to happen.
The problem isn’t necessarily putting Dorgu on that side as he looked promising on his debut despite only playing 45 minutes.
But instead, it is the fact that the left side remains limited with Diogo Dalot playing there. The Portuguese defender clearly does not suit the role on the left and Dorgu could help that problem.
Then you have multiple options on the right side, including Amad, who constantly performs well when played in the wingback role on that side.
Perhaps in the long-term Dorgu could also be an option on the right, but it seems like Amorim needs to try and fix that problem on the left as soon as possible.
