Patrick Dorgu is set to become Manchester United’s first signing under Ruben Amorim and reports have revealed his wage packet at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have prioritised signing a new left wing-back during the January transfer window, as Ruben Amorim’s tenure at the club has been challenging so far.

Injuries have left United with limited options in this position. Luke Shaw has been dealing with persistent fitness issues, while Tyrell Malacia has only recently returned after a 17-month absence due to a knee injury.

In the meantime, Diogo Dalot has been covering at left-back. However, the Portuguese defender is not a natural fit on the left side, underscoring the need for reinforcement in this area.

Patrick Dorgu of Lecce has emerged as United’s top target after impressing the club’s scouts last year. The 20-year-old Danish international is a versatile, attack-minded player, making him an ideal candidate for the wing-back role under Amorim’s system.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that an agreement has been reached between the two clubs for an initial £25 million transfer and the player has already agreed personal terms with United.

Dorgu’s wages at United revealed

Dorgu is expected to put pen to paper on a deal in the coming days and he could make his United debut very soon.

According to a report from Solo Lecce, the exciting 20-year-old will be signing a five-year deal at Old Trafford.

It was further explained that Dorgu would be earning £32,000-a-week as part of that deal for the first four years of the contract.

In his final year, Dorgu’s wages will rise to £48,000-a-week, a figure that keeps him on a considerably low amount in comparison to the current United squad.

Of course, player contracts are normally renegotiated if someone is playing very well, so these figures may change in the coming years, but it provides a safety net for the club if the move doesn’t work out as expected and they want to sell the player.

Over the last decade, United have had way too much trouble selling players because no other clubs in Europe are willing to match the wages they earned at Old Trafford.

Amorim wants United to avoid prior mistakes

Amorim has already made it extremely clear that United can no longer make rash decisions, which end up being mistakes, in the transfer market.

“We have to be cautious,” he told reporters last week. “The rules here and you know that we have to follow the rules, we have made mistakes in the past and we cannot do it now.”

Signing players like Antony or Rasmus Højlund for big money is no longer an option for United and this deal shows the change in stance.

The transfer fee is quite modest for an exciting young talent who can operate in various positions, while the wages also show that the Reds are being more sensible in their approach.
