Patrick Dorgu’s ex-coach sends warning over Manchester United transfer, his stance is clear
Patrick Dorgu could end up being the first senior signing under Ruben Amorim at Manchester United this month.
Manchester United are determined to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s first-team squad with new signings before the January transfer window closes.
Addressing the wingback position has become a priority, as both Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui have struggled to meet the role’s demands.
Patrick Dorgu remains United’s top target, although the club has seen two bids rejected, including their most recent offer of £25 million.
Reports indicate that the Italian club is holding firm on their valuation of at least £34 million, while the 20-year-old Danish international has remained calm throughout the ongoing transfer saga.
According to Fabrizio Romano, United are still keen on securing Dorgu’s signature and are preparing a third bid to finalise the deal.
Dorgu’s ex-coach doubts United transfer
Lecce signed Dorgu from FC Nordsjælland’s youth side in the summer of 2022. He spent most of his youth career at the Danish club.
Jens Fønnskov Olsen is currently the manager of Nordsjælland’s first-team but previously worked with Dorgu when he was the head coach of Denmark’s under-19s side.
Olsen has made his opinion on Dorgu’s potential transfer to Old Trafford clear in a recent interview with Tipsbladet.
The 49-year-old has claimed that he hopes Dorgu decides against the move and suggests he needs a move which provides him with “more structure”.
“If I have to be a little cheeky, I hope he chooses something other than Manchester United right now,” said Olsen.
“I don’t know if it’s a bad fit, but they’re just in a period where… I don’t know if you can afford to say no to United.
“But maybe somewhere where there’s a little more structure and where things fit in with his pace. Sometimes things have to go in the right order, if you can say it like that.”
No surprise people are doubting Dorgu to United
Unfortunately, it is no surprise that this is the view of some people when a young player is set to join United nowadays.
There have been too many examples in recent years of these talented players failing at Old Trafford and stunting their development.
United fans will be hoping that things will change under Amorim but you cannot blame anyone being sceptical about young players making the decision to join the club.

The problem is that the Reds cannot afford to buy ready-made stars across the board, so the club will need to finally start seeing progress when they buy up and coming talent.
Dorgu could be the first test of that in the new era under Amorim.
