Patrick Dorgu will help improve struggling Manchester United star, he is “looking forward” to playing with him
One Manchester United star who has been struggling this season could be greatly helped by the addition of Patrick Dorgu.
Patrick Dorgu, 20, has joined Manchester United as an immediate reinforcement for the left wingback position under Ruben Amorim.
This season, United has rotated between Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui, and Tyrell Malacia in the role, emphasising the need for a more reliable option.
With his attacking approach and ability to create danger in the final third, Dorgu looks like a valuable addition to the squad and will be eager to make an impact.
Before his move, the Danish international made 23 appearances for Lecce this season, showcasing his versatility by playing as both a left wingback and a right winger.
Dorgu can help struggling Hojlund at United
Many supporters were unimpressed that the club could not also sign a goalscorer in the mid-season window.
Rasmus Højlund has really struggled this season, with just two goals in the Premier League so far this season.
The Danish striker netted 16 goals in his debut campaign for the club but his levels have dropped and he is rarely getting chances to score at the moment.
While a lot of blame is being placed on the individual, United as a team do also need to generate better goalscoring opportunities for the team and Dorgu may help with that.
United have enough quality in the no.10 positions but the attacking threat from wingbacks has been limited with the current options. Dorgu will look to change that and offer much-needed quality on the left flank.
That, in turn, will hopefully help Højlund to get more opportunities and score more goals. A lot of other things need to also come together but bringing Dorgu in should help the issue.
Dorgu excited to work with Hojlund
Of course, Dorgu and Højlund have already played together in the Danish national team, which should help the pair build a stronger relationship at Old Trafford.
The 20-year-old has explained that he is eager to start working with the striker, as well as fellow Dane Christian Eriksen.
“I’m looking forward to playing with them,” he told club media. “I already played with them with the national team, so it’s going to be good to play with them here as well.”
