Patrick Dorgu sends exciting six-word message to Manchester United fans ahead of medical
Patrick Dorgu has sent his first message to Manchester United fans as he travels for his medical at Carrington this weekend.
Manchester United agreed a deal with Italian club Lecce for the transfer of Patrick Dorgu for a reported £25 million fee.
The talented 20-year-old was initially due to travel to England on Thursday but that was delayed, which also provided him the opportunity to say goodbye to Lecce fans after their 3-1 win against Parma on Friday night.
Dorgu will come into United and immediately be an option to strengthen the left wingback position for Ruben Amorim.
So far this season, Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui and Tyrell Malacia have all been used in the position and it is clear that United need an upgrade.
An offensive-minded player who can provide danger in the final third is needed and Dorgu appears to fit that criteria.
Dorgu sends exciting message to United fans
Dorgu will not be available to make his United debut against Crystal Palace on the weekend but could play next Friday against Leicester City in the FA Cup.
The Danish international made his way to Manchester on Saturday morning and was caught by some of the Italian press before making his way into the airport.
When asked by Sky Italy if he is “excited” about making the move to Old Trafford, Dorgu said: “Yes, it is an opportunity for me.”
Dorgu moved to Lecce in the summer of 2023 from FC Nordsjaelland’s youth teams and has made 57 appearances for the Serie A outfit since then.
United being smart with Dorgu deal
Amorim made it clear to the media that United were not going to have a gung-ho approach in the transfer market this month.
“We have to be cautious. The rules here and you know that we have to follow the rules, we have made mistakes in the past and we cannot do it now,” he explained.
There have been many times at Old Trafford where the panic button has been hit and they’ve made stupid decisions.
So it is quite clear that this deal has been assessed clearly and looking at it from the outside, it seems that way too.
Dorgu fills a clear gap in the current squad and his £25 million fee is on the modest side for modern day transfers. Reported wages of around £30,000-a-week are also sensible.
It feels like a deal that has quite a lot of potential positives, while it’s difficult to pick out the negatives. United fans will be excited to see him at work.
