Patrick Dorgu has signed for Manchester United and responded to a message from club captain Bruno Fernandes.

Patrick Dorgu, 20, has joined Manchester United as an immediate reinforcement for the left wingback role under Ruben Amorim.

This season, Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui, and Tyrell Malacia have all been deployed in the position, highlighting the club’s need for an upgrade.

With his attacking mindset and ability to create danger in the final third, Dorgu appears to be a strong addition to United’s squad and will be eager to make his mark.

Before his transfer, the Danish international made 23 appearances for Lecce this season, featuring in multiple roles, including left wingback and right wing.

Fernandes sends clear message to Dorgu

At just 20 years old, Dorgu will be stepping into a club facing a challenging situation, and as a new signing in such circumstances, fans will be hoping he can help turn things around.

With United struggling at wingback, the young talent will be expected to make an impact on the flanks. The pressure will be immense, and few understand that better than Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes was instrumental in transforming the club’s fortunes after arriving in January of the 2019/20 season and has recently emphasised that any player joining United must have “the balls” to handle the pressure—a clear message to incoming signings like Dorgu.

“The reality is to play here you have to have that pressure, you have to have the balls to play for this club — that is what it is,” Fernandes told reporters.

“You have to feel that in every moment in every game it is a new chance to bring us back to the position we deserve.”

Dorgu responds to Fernandes’ message

During his opening interview with United media, Dorgu was asked about the praise he’s received from previous managers about his mentality.

He responded that it is “the most important thing” and explained that, as a footballer, you need to be strong inside and outside of the pitch in what appears to be a clear response to those comments from Fernandes.

“Mentality and focus? For me, it’s the most important thing because there’s a lot of talks around football and you really need to be strong outside of football as well,” explained Dorgu.

“When I’ve been in Italy I’ve lived alone. Of course, my family is visiting me a lot but you need to be really good mentally to stay focused and being concentrated on football.”

Quality on the pitch is very important but players also need to show more resilience and character than at most other clubs in the worlds – it appears that Dorgu is aware of the importance of that.
