“I feel…” What Denmark boss thinks about Patrick Dorgu following Manchester United red card vs Ipswich
Denmark international manager Brian Riemer has offered his thoughts on Patrick Dorgu after the Manchester United player was sent off against Ipswich Town on Wednesday evening.
Manchester United edged Ipswich Town 3-2 in the Premier League, with Harry Maguire’s header securing the win.
Ipswich took an early lead after a mix-up between Patrick Dorgu and André Onana allowed Jaden Philogene to score. United responded as Bruno Fernandes’ free-kick led to a Sam Morsy own goal, before Matthijs de Ligt struck from a corner to make it 2-1.
Dorgu’s red card for a high challenge on Omari Hutchinson proved costly, as Ipswich equalised just before half-time.
Despite being down to 10 men, United reclaimed the lead early in the second half through Maguire’s towering header and held firm to take all three points.
Dorgu red card verdict given
Following Dorgu’s sending-off, which many agree was a red card but do not blame the player for the act, Denmark’s international boss Brian Riemer, who is familiar with the 20-year-old having managed him with the national side, has offered his take on the incident.
“I feel for the boy,” said Riemer, as quoted by Camp.dk. “Everyone knows it’s not nice to be in a situation like that.
“But from the coaching side of the table, it’s worse if tactical decisions and individual skills are not good enough. From a coaching perspective, I can reassure him by saying it’s a real misunderstanding.
“It’s a communication error at some level, and of course it shouldn’t happen, but I think all defenders have experienced that.”
What games will Dorgu miss?
As Dorgu’s challenge is deemed to have been “serious foul play,” the player will now miss United’s next three domestic fixtures.

These come in the form of a home tie against Fulham this weekend in the FA Cup, as well as Arsenal’s visit to Old Trafford seven days after. Dorgu will also miss United’s trip to Leicester City.
However, the player will still be available for the upcoming fixture against Real Sociedad, as his ban does not apply to European fixtures.
“It’s important,” Amorim said of his upcoming team selections amid Dorgu’s red card. “We have players out so we have to keep our players available. We have to make some rotation but we have to fight for every game. It’s not a difference in the FA Cup or Europa League.
“He [Dorgu] is going to be ready to play. He will play in the Europa League, for sure, as we have to make rotation. It’s the life of a player, you make a mistake but you have to go again and play the next game.”
