Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu has called for one of his Manchester United teammates to step up next season after his goal against Bournemouth.
Wing-back Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu has called for his Manchester United teammate to “deliver” as the club continues preparation for the 2025/26 Premier League season.
Dorgu has impressed in both of United’s summer series campaigns, as they most recently bested Bournemouth in a convincing 4-1 victory on Thursday.
Manager Ruben Amorim has repeatedly confirmed his faith in the 20-year-old in the press. After signing from Lecce during the winter transfer window, Dorgu has cemented his place in the first team.
Dorgu’s addition to the squad has been impressive, having played twelve times in the Premier League last year.
Højlund needs to perform for United
Striker Rasmus Højlund faces a mountain of pressure ahead of his third season at the club, with his teammates Dorgu explaining that the striker must deliver next season.
Coming off the back of a disappointing previous season, Højlund faced criticism about his impact on the team, and speculation began on a possible move away from the club.
That said, in a post-match interview after the game against Bournemouth, in which he scored a “clever” headed goal, the Danish centre-forward reiterated his desire to stay at the club and fight for his place in the starting eleven.
“He’s doing really well,” Dorgu commented. “He looks sharp, he looks fit, and I’m very happy for Rasmus to get his goal. It was a difficult season for Rasmus.
“Not only for him, but for everyone, so I think this season is really important for him and for the team to get back to where we have to be in the league. We need a striker to deliver on the pitch, so that’s why he was happy.”
Danish link-up could be key for United
The two Denmark internationals played numerous times together towards the end of last season, even starting the Europa League final together.
“We talk in training, we try to understand each other on the pitch, for me to know where he is in the box and what movements he likes,” Dorgu continued.
“He needs confidence, everyone needs confidence, and a goal always helps with that.”
Dorgu has formed a connection with forward Højlund since they first played together against Leicester in the FA Cup in February, building their relationship on and off the pitch.
There is no doubt the pair will play a pivotal role next season for the Reds, with both already getting on the scoresheet this preseason.
