Patrice Evra has delivered a passionate response to Paul Scholes following his criticism of Michael Carrick after his first loss at Manchester United.
Michael Carrick was yet to lose a game in charge of Manchester United until Wednesday night, where the Reds were defeated 2-1 by a 10-men Newcastle side.
It was a disappointed performance and result but United remain third in the Premier League table and are still favourites to finish in the Champions League positions.
Despite this, Carrick has received plenty of criticism in recent days due to the performance of the team, and his former teammates have added to that.
Paul Scholes took to Instagram after the game and claimed that Carrick’s side have been ‘c**p’ in recent fixtures.
“Michael has definitely got something special about him… cos United have been crap last 4 games,” he wrote, before deleting the post the following morning.
Evra delivers passionate response to Scholes after Carrick criticism
In an interview with Stake, Patrice Evra was asked about Scholes’ comments about Carrick and stated that he ‘hopes’ the ex-midfielder was hacked.
Evra believes that there needs to be support for Carrick but understands that negativity sells more when you work in the media landscape.
“I hope Paul Scholes’ Instagram story is fake, I hope he was hacked,” the former left-back began.
“To be honest, I’m not surprised at that from Scholesy. He was the quietest player I’ve ever played with in my entire career. Now, in the media, he drops bombshells.
“I really don’t understand the lack of support behind Michael Carrick, he’s one of us and he’s doing very well. There’s been negative analysis from Scholesy, but also from Roy Keane and Gary Neville.
“It annoys me because we want to be in the top four, and those comments are unnecessary, but this is what you do when you work in TV. You can’t be positive, you have to be negative.”

Fans are fed up with United punditry
Fans have been saying for years that negativity sells when you are talking about Manchester United and Evra seems to completely agree.
It is more significant coming from him but it’s nothing we didn’t already know. But there does seem to be a strange split in the support for Carrick.

Neville, Keane and Scholes do not seem to offer the same support that the likes of Wayne Rooney or Evra have. Keane called out Carrick’s wife on a podcast shortly after he received the job.
These are legends of the club and United supporters will always appreciate what they did, but it feels like people are starting to get fed up with their punditry.
