Former Manchester United star Owen Hargreaves has praised one current star, with the belief that “nobody’s better” amid conversation over a new contract or a Saudi move looming.
Manchester United have been a completely different side since the arrival of Michael Carrick taking over from the disappointing Ruben Amorim era.
United have secured 19 points from a possible 24 in the Premier League, leaving the Red Devils currently in third place as they hunt down a Champions League finish. The former Middlesbrough manager has got the best out of his players following doubts halfway through the season.
One player in particular has been the powerhouse of United’s success across every season since his arrival, catching the attention of Champions League winner with United, Owen Hargreaves, with his standout performances this season.
Amid conversation over a new contract and interest from Saudi Arabia, Hargreaves has shown his admiration for the United star for his contribution to the club.
Hargreaves full of praise for Bruno Fernandes
Captain Bruno Fernandes has been the beating heart at the core of this Man United side, as he looks to chase down the record for most assists in a Premier League season.
Speaking on TNT Sports, Hargreaves revealed his honest assessment of Fernandes as conversation over a new contract grows, fending off Saudi interest for the Portuguese magnifico.
“Whether it’s goals or assists, he’s always fit, he’s always available, he always plays, he’s got absolute class when he gets on the ball,” he explained.
“Obviously, he was playing a little bit deeper under Ruben [Amorim], but he’s just a special player, and when you’re going to sign a Manchester United player, it’s not just about goals and assists, which he had at Sporting.”
He added, “Obviously, these passes, he makes them look easy, and obviously, it’s a great finish, but I think what makes him special is he’s just always there in the big moments when you need the good or bad ones,” he explained.
“To play for this football club, you need to deal with pressure, and nobody’s done that better in the last 10 years than Bruno Fernandes.”
Fernandes has undeniably been United’s best signing since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement. The Portugal international consistently performs to the highest standard, regardless of the opponent and deserves to achieve greatness at the club, rightfully catching the eye of former United stars.

Fernandes still vital to United’s future success
Despite being 31 years old, Fernandes has shown this season how effective he is to the squad, consistently attempting to get the best out of his teammates and striving for greatness.
As talks for a new contract are set to begin at the end of the season, Fernandes extending his stay at United will be a relief for the fans of the club.

Having bounced back from such a disappointing 2024/25 season, Fernandes deserves to reap the rewards of securing a Champions League finish and play on Europe’s biggest stage next season at Old Trafford.
For now, United’s attention turns towards Aston Villa, who look to spoil the party and take one of those Champions League places for themselves with a trip up to Manchester in a week.
