Owen Hargreaves reveals three Manchester United players Ruben Amorim was ‘frustrated with’ during Ipswich clash
Owen Hargreaves has revealed three Manchester United players that Ruben Amorim was ‘frustrated with’ during the clash against Ipswich Town.
Manchester United settled for a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town in Ruben Amorim’s first game as head coach despite taking an early lead.
Amad Diallo shone with a brilliant solo run, setting up Marcus Rashford to score the opener within two minutes of kick-off. However, that proved to be the high point for United at Portman Road.
Ipswich equalised shortly before halftime through a deflected long-range effort, which looked like the only way to beat André Onana between the sticks.
The second half saw United struggle to create clear opportunities, and it was Ipswich who looked like the team pushing for a winner.
There was much to learn from the game for Amorim, who had only had a small number of training sessions with the majority of the squad.
Hargreaves reveals three Man Utd players Amorim was ‘frustrated with’
Amorim has displayed a calm and cool character during his first weeks as United boss but cut a frustrated figure at Portman Road.
During the game, former United midfielder Owen Hargreaves was watching the 39-year-old closely and noticed that he wasn’t best pleased with three players in particular.
Diogo Dalot’s positioning as the left wingback was something that Amorim did not like, as well as the positioning from Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Højlund when they came on as second half substitutes.
“He was pretty frustrated, I’m not gonna lie, he was right in front of me and he was really frustrated with a lot of things,” explained Hargreaves on Premier League Productions.
“I think initially, Dalot’s positioning, he was a little bit frustrated with that in the first half. I think the midfield balance he didn’t really like.
“And when Zirkzee came on I don’t think he was overly happy with his positioning, and Højlund as well, so I think there’s a lot of stuff that needs a little bit of work.
“Before the game we saw all of those smiles and all that charm from Ruben Amorim but during the game he was really frustrated.
“I think he realised this is going to be a lot harder than he probably envisioned.”
