Owen Hargreaves reveals five changes Ruben Amorim must make to Man Utd XI after Ipswich draw
Owen Hargreaves has revealed five key changes that he thinks Ruben Amorim will make to Manchester United’s XI following the draw to Ipswich Town.
Manchester United played out a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town in Ruben Amorim’s first match as manager, despite an early lead.
Amad Diallo impressed with a superb solo run, assisting Marcus Rashford for the opening goal. However, that moment of brilliance was United’s standout highlight at Portman Road.
Ipswich levelled the score just before halftime with a long-range strike deflected by Noussair Mazraoui.
In the second half, United struggled to generate meaningful chances, with players like Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho unable to make a significant impact in the final third.
Amorim would have learnt about a lot of his players in the game, and will likely make changes as the weeks go on.
Former United midfielder Owen Hargreaves believes that he will completely change the midfield, with Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte coming in for Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.
He also suggests that Leny Yoro, Lisandro Martínez and Luke Shaw will come into the team, with many players looking uncomfortable in the formation on Sunday.
“Looking at that today, I didn’t feel like that [formation] suited a lot of the players out there,” Hargreaves said on Premier League Productions.
“I think a lot of the players… I think the team will look different in a few weeks time.
“I think Ugarte will get in there, Kobbie [Mainoo] will get in there. Obviously, Martínez, Yoro and Luke Shaw, [who] I thought looked good when he came on.
“It’s going to take a little bit of time. Personnel-wise, maybe not the best with what they have but this is what the man wants them playing.
“If you don’t fit, then you probably won’t be here very long.”
