Owen Hargreaves believes Man Utd starlet will “walk into” Ruben Amorim’s XI, it could be special
Owen Hargreaves believes that one Manchester United starlet will ‘walk into’ Ruben Amorim’s starting eleven in the coming weeks.
Ruben Amorim began his Manchester United tenure with a draw against Ipswich Town, followed by a Europa League victory over Bodo/Glimt earlier this week.
His next challenge is a Premier League clash with Everton, leaving limited time for preparation on the training ground.
However, the 39-year-old remains focused on maximising each session at Carrington as he works to embed his tactical philosophy within the squad.
He has also been experimenting on the pitch, with clear rotation in these first two games. Not only for fitness reasons but also to assess as many players as possible.
However, soon enough he will need to find out his best team to give United the biggest opportunity to find some form to move up the table.
Several players have already made an impact. Noussair Mazraoui, André Onana and Bruno Fernandes look like certainties under the new head coach.
Yet, one other player who you’d like to think would be a consistent starter is yet to play under the Portuguese boss.
Kobbie Mainoo has been on the bench for both of Amorim’s opening games but has not come onto the pitch. His reintegration is being taken carefully after returning from injury.
But once the 19-year-old does take to the pitch, many believe that he will end up having a key role in the new system alongside Manuel Ugarte.
That is exactly what former United midfielder Owen Hargreaves believes. He suggests that the ‘special’ talent will be a mainstay in the team.
“It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Kobbie Mainoo, such a special young player, you’d think he’d kind of almost walk into that midfield,” he said on TNT Sports this week.
“[Manuel] Ugarte I thought played really well today, there are a lot of people who are going to get opportunities.”
Mainoo will be hoping to get his chance to impress the new head coach this weekend against Everton.
