One of Manchester United’s young stars is reportedly hoping to catch the eye of Michael Carrick following his unexpected January return to the club.
Manchester United kept activity to a minimum during the 2026 winter transfer window, with no major additions or exits from Michael Carrick’s senior squad.
Although several Academy players were sent out on loan on deadline day to gain valuable first-team experience, the club opted to delay any significant decisions regarding the men’s first team until the summer.
The most significant development in January was the announcement that Casemiro will depart at the end of the season when his contract expires, increasing the urgency for United to reinforce their midfield in the upcoming window.
However, with uncertainty still lingering over who will take charge for the 2026/27 campaign, the club are continuing to assess and shape their transfer plans ahead of the summer.
Moorhouse hoping to catch Carrick’s eye
Another move that went down in the final days of the winter transfer window, rather unexpectedly, was the sudden return of Jack Moorhouse to Carrington despite his “outstanding” displays on loan at Leyton Orient during the first half of the campaign.
The 20-year-old is very highly thought of within the club’s Academy and was one player Rúben Amorim was keeping close tabs on last season before his eventual dismissal.
Moorhouse returned to Old Trafford and did not go on loan, and has since been spotted in first-team training on multiple occasions under Carrick. According to MailSport, the midfielder is now hoping to catch the eye of Carrick.
Amid the integration of the likes of Shea Lacey, Jack Fletcher, and Tyler Fletcher into the first-team training set-up, Morohouse is looking to have a similar impact.
Moorhouse could benefit from summer activity
United need multiple new midfield signings this summer, but amid the possibility that multiple first-team players could leave the club in the coming months, Moorhouse could be a beneficiary of this.

Casemiro is already a confirmed exit, while Manuel Ugarte is being continually linked with a move to Turkish giants Galatasaray.
While it’s expected that United will sign at least one big-money midfielder in the summer, and that a second is likely, too, United’s midfield is already short of another body in the middle of the park.
If both Casemiro and Ugarte depart in the summer and United bring in two replacements, there is still space for a third to join the group, and Moorhouse could be one who steps into that role if given the chance.
