“Our focus…” – Chido Obi Martin has already responded to Ruben Amorim’s latest Manchester United challenge
Ruben Amorim has set a challenge for Manchester United’s youth team players after the latest win against FCSB in the Europa League.
Manchester United won 2-0 against FCSB in their final Europa League league phase fixture, ensuring progression to the round-of-16.
Kobbie Mainoo scored and assisted in the game, while fellow Academy graduate Alejandro Garnacho also excelled after coming off the bench at half-time.
Both of those players have had uncertain futures this month, with reports suggesting thatthe club would be open to selling them at the right price.
Amorim says United are focused on youth integration
After the game on Thursday, Ruben Amorim explained that he wants to keep the two 2024 FA Cup final scorers but also set a challenge for the current crop of players in the Academy.
Amorim believes that the club need to bring more players through the youth setup, not only to emerge as first-team regulars but also to raise their value for potential sales.
“That part is true [clubs being able to raise money by selling Academy players] but I want players like Kobbie and Garnacho,” he told journalists.
“The focus is that we have to improve our Academy and you have to bring more. Because that is something all the clubs in England have to take advantage of – the players who came from the Academy.
“To play, to feel the shirt and also to sell. So, our focus is to bring more. The rest, I just want to prepare with both of them for the next game.”
Obi Martin responds to Amorim challenge
Chido Obi Martin joined the club earlier this season and established himself as a prolific goalscorer at youth level during his time at Arsenal.
After moving to Old Trafford, there were signs that Obi Martin’s overall play needed refinement in order to make the step up to the first-team.
In recent months, significant progress in Obi Martin’s game has been evident. The teenager has improved his ability to receive the ball with his back to goal and link up effectively with teammates, adding a new dimension to his game.
This has been displayed in recent games, especially in the 5-0 win against Oldham earlier this week, where Sekou Kone also excelled.
While many of United’s young prospects require time to develop physically before making the leap to first-team football, the 17-year-old is already ahead of his peers in this regard.
Amorim has set a challenge for the youth players to push their way into the first-team and considering the level of United’s current forwards, Obi Martin is already making a good case to get promoted before the end of the season.
