One Manchester United star’s wife has opened up on the impact his exit from Old Trafford this summer will have on their family.
Manchester United are preparing for a significant squad shake-up this summer as Rúben Amorim looks to make his mark ahead of the new season.
Backed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, the club plan to offload at least ten senior players to raise funds and begin building a new-look team. Amorim’s summer window will focus on youth and energy while bringing in players who are more physically capable of playing in the Premier League.
Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelöf, and Jonny Evans will leave when their contracts expire, while Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Jadon Sancho are among those likely to be sold, with potential earnings of over £100 million.
Decisions are still to be made on the futures of Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo, and Alejandro Garnacho as United continue their planning behind the scenes.
Lindelöf’s wife opens up on pending summer exit
With Lindelöf having no choice but to part ways and move on from United once his contract expires, there are also ramifications for the family he has built at United.
Lindelöf signed for the club in 2017 for a £31 million fee and has spent eight seasons at Old Trafford, playing 283 times. Outside of football, he has built a family life in Manchester, with his wife, Maja Nilsson Lindelöf, expecting her third child this summer.
While Lindelöf and his entourage will be having one eye focused on market opportunities this summer, Maja has opened up on how much of an impact his expiring contract will have on their family.
“I’m prepared to sit with a baby, hormonal, and just cry while I maybe pack my bags and say goodbye to my whole life,” Maja Lindelof explained in an interview with Elle.
“Manchester is our children’s only home, so it will be really tough for everyone.”
Lindelöf is a hot property on the summer market
When it comes to relocation, Lindelöf seems to have the pick of the bunch this summer. Seven sides, including four from the Premier League, are reportedly eyeing signing him.
Fulham, Everton, West Ham, and Wolverhampton Wanderers have been in contact regarding a free transfer this summer, with his priority also said to be to stay in England.
However, Juventus, Inter Milan, and his former club Benfica are all showing interest too, with a move back to the contenant no doubt a tempting offer.
Speaking to Sport TV in March, Lindelöf admitted that Benfica is a club that means a lot to him, but that he does not yet know where his future lies.
“Benfica as a club means a lot to me,” Lindelöf said. “It’s the club that made me the player I am today. I don’t know what will happen and what my decision will be.
“But it’s a club that means a lot to me and a club that I like. I don’t only have myself to think about. It’s a decision we have to make together as a family.”
