Only Patrick Dorgu and three other Manchester United stars suit Rúben Amorim’s system, claims Rio Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand has given his verdict on Ruben Amorim’s system and highlighted the four Manchester United players who suit his style of play.

After a 2-1 victory over Chelsea last weekend, Manchester United looked to climb into the top half of the table for the first time this campaign.

Ruben Amorim’s side travelled to London to face Bryan Mbeumo’s former club, although it was the Bees who ran away as 3-1 victors.

Having suffered an early two-goal deficit, United bounced back with a first Benjamin Šeško goal of the season, although a missed Bruno Fernandes spot kick was punished late on as Mathias Jensen sealed the victory for the hosts.

This defeat has left the Reds 14th in the Premier League, which has raised concern about the position of United’s Portuguese tactician. Rio Ferdinand has given his say.

Ferdinand speaks about Amorim’s system

When speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand stated that he thinks United have very limited amounts of personnel that suit Amorim’s unique 3-4-2-1 system.

He said: “I think there’s only probably [Matheus] Cunha, [Patrick] Dorgu, the goalkeeper, and Šeško, who are probably playing in positions that they’re used to playing all the time, and in a way that they play.

“All the others, I think, are having to adapt and have to learn a new way of playing. And that can’t be totally right.”

Considering the fact that the Reds have had two transfer windows during Amorim’s reign, it is quite a damning statement to suggest that only four players suit the club’s new system.

Is Amorim on borrowed time?

With it being fairly obvious at this point that Amorim is refusing to stray away from his philosophy, it begs the question as to whether the Portuguese boss will ever manage to get the best out of United’s stars.

Bruno Fernandes is being forced to adopt a deeper role, Amad is contributing with wing-back shifts, whilst Kobbie Mainoo can’t even get into the starting XI. All three of these stars were key contributors to all of United’s little success last season.

Amorim seems very close to dying on his own sword with his stubbornness at this point, as it seems glaringly obvious that his system is failing to warrant success.

Hopefully, he is able to figure out a solution quickly, as he will need to put some points on the board if he is to stay in charge of such a prestigious club.
