Bryan Mbeumo made his Manchester United debut in the final game of the Premier League Summer Series against Everton on the weekend.
Manchester United played out a 2-2 draw against Everton in their final match of the Premier League Summer Series, with Bruno Fernandes delivering a standout performance.
While not as dominant as in their previous outing, United still displayed encouraging signs throughout the match. Bryan Mbeumo made a strong start, and both Amad and Kobbie Mainoo looked lively in the opening half. Fernandes gave United the lead with a composed finish from the penalty spot.
However, the Reds were pegged back shortly before the break when Manuel Ugarte was dispossessed deep in his own half, leading to Everton’s equaliser.
In the second half, Ruben Amorim’s side had moments of fluid attacking play, one of which resulted in a well-taken goal by Mason Mount to restore their lead.
But United were undone late on by an unfortunate own goal from Ayden Heaven before the game ended all square after 90 minutes.
Unreal Mbeumo moment vs Everton shows he can fix United issue
United were far from their best in this game but some of the attacking moves were still extremely exciting. The attack which led to the penalty early on was the pick of the bunch.
The ball was played forward to Amad who swept it inside to Matheus Cunha – the Brazilian passed across to Fernandes and the ball then fell to Bryan Mbeumo’s feet.
Mbeumo, 25, was starting his first game of the pre-season and while he is not yet at his best physical shape, his mind is clearly working at full capacity.
The Cameroon international, without a second thought, played a superb reverse pass to Amad on the overlap, who went onto win the penalty.
The move was described as ‘unreal’ by fans and Mbeumo’s role in it was the most interesting. United made some similar moves last term but that final pass was always the wrong one or lacked quality.
Mbeumo showed with that moment that he does not only have the quality to deliver in these quick transitional moves, but he also knows how to make the right decision. That is something United have been crying out for.
United can be dangerous in transitions
While it is clear that Amorim wants United to control games more, the transitional threat on offer could be a scary weapon to use.
United were dangerous on counter-attacks last term but players simply just wasted the opportunities. Mbeumo and Cunha will take advantage of those situations.

Fernandes will be developing relationships with both players in the coming weeks and months too. There was a slight miscommunication when he tried finding Mbeumo on the last line against Everton. That will only improve going forward.
United need to learn to dominate games and take their time with creating chances. But when those high intensity attacks come, Mbeumo should help United turn more of them turn into genuine goalscoring opportunities.
