“One of the best…” – Harry Maguire sends 14-word message as Manchester United confirm first-team staff departure

Harry Maguire has reacted to the news that one of Manchester United first-team staff members has departed the Old Trafford club.

It has been confirmed that Manchester United’s first-team doctor Jim Moxon has departed the club to join fellow Premier League club Brighton.

The Manchester Evening News have reported that Moxon is expected to start his new role at the end of the season after serving his notice period.

A recruiter for the Old Trafford club has posted on LinkedIn: “Following the announcement that the brilliant Jim Moxon will be leaving us at the end of the season, we are now recruiting a first-team doctor to join our medical team here at Manchester United.

“This is a great opportunity to become part of a world-class team and play a key role in delivering elite medical care to our first-team players.”

Moxon joined the club at the beginning of 2023, initially on a temporary basis before being a made a permanent staff member.

Maguire sends message to departing United staff member

Following the announcement of this exit, first-team defender Harry Maguire has sent a message to the departing Moxon.

Maguire, who has had several injury issues over the last two years, wished his colleague the best of luck while claiming that he is “one of the best” at his role

On his Instagram story, the 32-year-old posted an image of him and Moxon with the caption: “Thanks for everything mate. One of the best around. You’ll be missed by everyone.”

This is just one of many changes to be made at the club over the last year.

Question marks over United medical team

Since the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS at the beginning of 2024, there has been a complete overhaul at staff level.

Over 250 staff members were made redundant last year and there have been another 100-200 jobs lost in recent months.

Moxon’s exit follows on from the departure of Gary O’Driscoll, former head of medical services, after he arrived in 2023.

There have been question-marks over the medical team at Old Trafford since the beginning of last season where Erik ten Hag was handed many injury concerns.

The departure of Moxon, however, seems to be his decision and – if Maguire’s words are anything to go by – a potential blow.
