One Man Utd star has been ‘outstanding in training’ since Michael Carrick took over, says Andy Mitten

Andy Mitten has highlighted an ‘outstanding’ Manchester United star who shone brightest in Michael Carrick’s first week in charge.

Michael Carrick has enjoyed a very impressive start to his life as the Manchester United interim manager, having beaten the Reds’ fierce rivals, Manchester City, over the weekend.

United hosted their neighbours at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon, where they managed to come out as 2-0 victors, with Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu notching a goal apiece.

This result has catapulted the Reds into fifth in the Premier League, only one point behind Liverpool in fourth, with their next bout being a tough trip to the Emirates, to face league leaders Arsenal.

With Carrick already seeing a vast improvement from his players, it is clear that his first week has been a success. Andy Mitten has highlighted one ‘outstanding’ individual who has impressed in training.

‘Oustanding’ Casemiro impresses in training

Casemiro is one of the few players who can thank former United manager Ruben Amorim for helping the Brazilian to turn his career around at Old Trafford, but since the arrival of Carrick, he has continued to impress.

As reported by United In Focus, Andy Mitten has shared that the midfielder was ‘outstanding’ in the training sessions leading up to the Manchester derby.

He said, “I am told that Casemiro was outstanding in training last week. We saw that on Saturday [vs Man City]. We can argue who the best player was during the game, but he was absolutely among the top two or top three.

“Michael Carrick went to basics with a lot of stuff. Multiple sources told me last week that the training was good, and the mood was good going into the game.”

Basics much needed at United

In the modern era of the Premier League, a vast number of sides seem to have stripped themselves back to basics, focusing on set-pieces, pressing, and defensive stability.

This has often meant that, despite the individual quality within United’s squad, they have been nullified by teams who have simply been better at the basics.

Over the last month, the Reds have dropped points against Wolves, Leeds United, and Burnley, something they would have hoped to avoid given the difference in quality between themselves and those sides.

Hopefully, United can continue their fine start to life under Carrick, although there will be no tougher test than a trip to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal on Sunday.
