Omar Berrada has been discussing a key change to the recruitment process at Manchester United and fans will be pleased.

Manchester United are in desperate need of securing reinforcements for Ruben Amorim’s squad in the summer transfer window.

The Reds currently sit in the bottom half of the Premier League table and it is evident that big changes are needed.

However, in the last decade, United have become well-known for making poor recruitment decisions, leading to big money being wasted.

This will be the first transfer window where Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s entire team is in place and they have a difficult job to ensure that recruitment is improved upon.

Berrada confirms United recruitment change

One of the concerns many had when Amorim took charge is that players would be signed specifically for his system and way of play.

That is how things played out with Erik ten Hag and previous managers. Once they were sacked, their replacement was left with a player who didn’t suit the way they wanted to play.

United’s chief executive officer Omar Berrada has confirmed that the club will changing their recruitment strategy and looking to sign players who are “adaptable” to different systems.

Berrada also mentioned how Amorim is not wedded to his 3-4-3 formation and that his idea, which he mentions so often, is more related to the overall concept of how he wants the team to play.

“I think it’s riskier if you have a coach that doesn’t have a clear idea of how he wants to play. And with Ruben we don’t see that risk,” Berrada told the Manchester Evening News.

“And when it comes to our recruitment strategy, without commenting too much, the idea we have is to be able to bring in versatile players that can be adaptable to multiple systems.

“And ultimately Ruben himself has said it, it’s not about the 3-4-3 tactical formation, it’s about an idea, a concept of how he wants to see the team playing. He wants to see the team playing more on the front foot, more of a possession, attacking-based style of football.

“So for that, you need players that can play in multiple positions that can adapt to that vision that Ruben has. And this is what we’re going to try to do over the next years in our recruitment.”

Fans pleased but United must show improvements

So many problems at United in recent years has come down to recruiting poorly and not having an aligned vision across managers.

Things got extremely messy and squad cohesion was poor. Fans have been hoping that this would be a decision United would make and it appears they are doing so, which will please the supporters.

The absolute ideal scenario is that United build a successful squad for Amorim to manage. However, if things end sour and the Portuguese boss is eventually sacked, the squad building should not become a problem for the next man in charge.

There is still a lot of scepticism about the new leadership group at the club, and they need to showcase their ideas with good decisions, but such comments from Berrada show positive signs.
