Manchester United Women’s have been having a solid season despite the concerns heading into the campaign and continued their positive form this weekend.
Goals from Grace Clinton and Dominique Janssen secured a 2-0 win against Everton for Marc Skinner’s side to make it nine wins in their last 10 Women’s Super League fixtures.
Currently third in the table – level on points with second-placed Arsenal, the Reds also have an FA Cup semi-final clash against Manchester City coming up.
Skinner has come under fire during his time in charge of the Women’s team, especially after INEOS rewarded him with a new one-year contract last summer.
However, the 42-year-old has to be given credit for how his team have played this season after losing several high-profile players, such as Mary Earps and Ona Batlle.
Berrada praises “fantastic” Skinner after United win
United’s CEO, Omar Berrada, was present at Leigh Sports Village to watch the Women’s side win against the Toffees on the weekend.
He was interviewed by MUTV after the game and reserved special praise for Skinner, who he believes is doing a “fantastic job” this season.
“I think Marc is doing a fantastic job and it’s a team for the future,” the United CEO said. “We’re going to continue to building on it.
“It’s been incredible, credit to them for the season they’re having. They’re showing lots of grit and determination. They have the best defensive record in the league and they’re doing really well.”
Berrada also encouraged fans to attend the last few fixtures of the season to help the team with some difficult games. “We need to really show the support to this team for the incredible season they’re having,” he added.
Ratcliffe agrees with Berrada on “great” Skinner
Of course, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has not been shy in admitting that he is not focusing on the Women’s team at the moment, and the way in which he has communicated that has caused some outrage.
The United co-owner has explained that his attention is almost solely on the Men’s team and improving the situation for Ruben Amorim’s side.
However, even Ratcliffe stated in early March that the ladies have been “doing better” than Amorim’s team and also praised Skinner for the work he is doing.
“The women’s team wear the Manchester united brand and the Manchester United logo, so in that sense they’re every bit as important as the men’s team and frankly they’re doing better that the men’s team,” he admitted.
“I think they’re second in the league, they won the FA Cup last year, Marc Skinner is doing a great job as the coach and the new captain Maya [Le Tissier] is doing a great job.”
