Omar Berrada and Sir Jim Ratcliffe have been discussing the plans at Manchester United to win the Premier League by 2028.

Manchester United have experienced major struggles this season and new head coach Ruben Amorim has been unable to turn things around quickly.

The Reds are currently sitting 14th in the Premier League table and their only hopes of ending the season on a high note are in the Europa League.

Significant changes are needed to be made in order to improve the team and move forwards in INEOS’ plans for the Premier League to return to Old Trafford.

It has previously been claimed that United have Mission 21, which is working towards a historic 21st title for the 2027/28 campaign – 150 years after the club was formed in 1878.

As things stand, that seems like a lofty and overambitious target that will be hard to reach for one of the most underperforming clubs in world football.

Berrada and Ratclifee agree on United message

United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the club’s CEO Omar Berrada have both shared their opinions on the target made after the likes of Wayne Rooney have criticised the message.

The ex-United striker labelled Amorim as “naive” after the head coach echoed the plans in a post-match interview earlier this month.

Berrada, who joined the club from rivals Manchester City last year, says that all of the clubs’s energy will be spent on achieving this aim. Meanwhile, Ratcliffe claimed that other clubs have rebuilt their teams to challenge in a similar amount of time to United’s plans.

“You have to set an objective right?” Berrada told The Times. “So you focus everybody’s minds on where you’re trying to get to and it can’t just be open ended.

“We’re going to try to win the Premier League. We want to do it within a certain time frame and we want to focus all of our efforts and energy on trying to achieve that. That’s ultimately the point.”

Ratcliffe added: “We have to test ourselves don’t we? Liverpool is quite a good example on timing, where Jürgen Klopp arrived in 2015 and they had Michael Edwards and Ian Graham.

“The process of rebuilding the squad in Liverpool started in the summer of ’15, they rebuilt the squad in ’15, ’16, ’17 and ’18 and then in the next three years they won everything.”

Things can change quickly in football

At the moment, there are clear and understandable question marks about this, especially when you look at the club’s current position.

However, things can change quite quickly in football with a good plan and strategy. We are yet to see if that is what United have, but if they make good recruitment decisions, then you can certainly challenge quicker than expected.

Big changes are needed and the upcoming summer transfer window will be the first where the entire new management team are in place. That will be a good showing as to whether United will be on the right track.

Nevertheless, being ambitious is something needed at Old Trafford, even if 2028 feels like a pipe dream for supporters at this moment in time.
