Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has commended Manchester United’s improved work rate ahead of their clash this weekend.
Manchester United’s fine run of form in the Premier League came to a disappointing end on Monday night, as they fell to a 1-0 defeat at home to a 10-man Everton side.
The Reds were defeated at the hands of a Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall curler that was pushed into the top corner by Senne Lammens. This defeat has left United sitting 10th in the league.
Ruben Amorim will be hoping to see an improved performance when his side faces Oliver Glasner’s Eagles on Sunday, who are currently in fifth on 20 points.
The Palace manager has spoken highly of Amorim, as well as his side’s improved work rate, with the Austrian stating that it is “impressive to see”.
Glasner’s thoughts on United
When talking to the media on Friday afternoon about memories of facing United, Glasner said, “Yes, the 4-0 was when Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze were still here, and Erik ten Hag was their manager, so it doesn’t make sense talking about it: new teams, new manager there.
“The 2-0 there [at Old Trafford last season], yes, Ruben Amorim was already in charge of the team, but also their team changed, especially their attack, that is what I am talking about.
“They thought, ‘OK, we need more goals’ and then they invested 200 million and buying three players up front and also players who can play very intense like we do.
“For me, it is impressive to see, and we compared it, and now I think their work rate is much higher than it has been last year, and they get the reward.”
Glasner praises Amorim system
The Austrian tactician continued giving his thoughts on the Reds by mentioning how they both set up in a similar 3-4-3 formation, something that Amorim has often been criticised for.
Glasner said, “It is really funny that sometimes we are talking about a 3-4-3 system and I think Man Utd and we have the highest xG [expected goals] in the Premier League. We play in the same system, so it looks like it is a good attacking system! And also, like we’ve showed, you can have a very good defensive structure in it.

“It is all about what you do with the system and how fluid you are in your attack and how creative you are.
“I am really looking forward to this game. They are doing well, I think we are doing well, and also yesterday’s defeat, we won’t lose our minds. It is just now, again, finding the right tweaks where we can adjust with no time for training.”
Glasner seems to have found the right balance between defensive solidity and attacking threat for his Palace side, so it will be interesting to see how the Reds fare in their next Premier League instalment.
