Rúben Amorim is expected to make a host of starting XI changes as Manchester United face Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
After a dismal performance in the Europa League final, Manchester United are turning their attention to the final game of the season against Aston Villa.
United are welcoming Unai Emery’s men to Old Trafford in matchday 38 of the Premier League season, with the club currently sitting 16th in the league table and simply playing for pride this summer.
In theory, Rúben Amorim’s men could still finish 14th in the league table, provided that West Ham fail to beat Ipswich Town and Wolverhampton Wanderers lose at home against Brentford.
But, with the Europa League final loss weighing heavily on the club and Villa needing a win to try and secure Champions League football next season, there is a significant worry that United could suffer another embarrassing loss.
Amorim has almost a full squad available vs Villa
Ahead of the Europa League final, United saw Joshua Zirkzee, Diogo Dalot, and Leny Yoro all return to the squad, which was a fantastic boost for Amorim.
Matthijs de Ligt was not able to make the squad but was spotted in Bilbao at the stadium, although it feels unlikely that the Dutchman will be risked against Villa, considering how meaningless the tie is for Amorim’s men.
Lisandro Martínez remains out of action with an ACL injury and is not expected to return to action until November, but beyond the two centre-backs, Amorim has a full first-team squad available to him.
All of the club’s significant young talents, such as Chido Obi, Harry Amass, and Tyler Fredricson, are also available to start.
Amorim expected to rotate heavily vs Villa
With United’s season now over following the loss against Tottenham in Bilbao, he is expected to heavily rotate the starting team and give many youngsters starts.
With the club set to embark on a post-season tour immediately after the Premier League campaign ends, Amorim is likely to pick those such as Obi, Amass, and Fredricson all set for starts, while it’s possible that debuts may be given, too.
Reports have stated that Amorim is keen to hand Bendito Mantato a professional debut after he signed a pro contract with the club earlier this month. He could be given minutes in attack after being included in a few squads in the last few weeks.
There is also a chance that young right full-back Jaydan Kamason could see minutes at Old Trafford. It would be nice for the fans to watch some fresh debuts and give the future stars a run-out at the club to close off a season to forget at United.
