Noussair Mazraoui explains two key attributes the Man United squad needs to become title challengers
Noussair Mazraoui has explained two key attributes the Manchester United squad needs to become title challengers.
Noussair Mazraoui officially signed for United last week on a four-year contract, with an option for an additional year, completing his £12 million move from Bayern Munich to Old Trafford.
The Moroccan right-back has reunited with Erik ten Hag, who previously guided his development at Ajax from the academy to the first team.
Mazraoui’s signing is timely for United, who need defensive reinforcements after conceding over 80 goals last season. He made his debut during a 1-0 win over Fulham, playing 81 minutes and impressing fans at right-back.
Following Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s transfer to West Ham, he will compete for a spot on the right side of the defence alongside Diogo Dalot. Mazraoui can also offer cover at left back.
The defender has played for Ajax and Bayern Munich, where winning trophies and building a strong dressing room are key. United needs to return to that.
Speaking to club media about what is necessary for a winning dressing room, Mazraoui explained the importance of being together but also being comfortable enough to challenge each other and accept this when things might not be going perfectly.
“You have to do it together, and that’s one big thing that everybody is on one line,” he said. “Everybody knows what to do, everybody knows what to expect from each other in the pitch.
“So that you can also keep each other, you know, responsible for if something doesn’t work out.
“And at that moment, I think you have to have a kind of relationship that you can say these things to each other and that you accept it from each other.
“I think from there on, you will really grow as a team, and you start to win games, you have winning streaks, and you’re smashing the opponents.
“Then, at one point, you’re in the flow, and then it’s then you have the feeling nobody can beat you. I hope this season is that season.”
