One of Manchester United’s players have been labelled as ‘one of the best’ in the Premier League following a strong spell of form.
Manchester United’s Premier League campaign has been uneven so far, as has been the case for several teams, but they are still only six points adrift of Manchester City in second.
Under Ruben Amorim, the side have registered notable wins, including triumphs over Liverpool and Crystal Palace, yet have also faltered in matches they should have controlled, most notably at Old Trafford against a 10-man Everton.
There have been several standout players for United so far this term, with Bruno Fernandes being an obvious name after assisting twice and scoring another against Wolves.
Bryan Mbeumo, United’s top scorer with seven, is another player who has shined and Matthijs de Ligt has looked solid at the back.
United star labelled as ‘one of the best’ in the Premier League
While Fernandes is the player many refer to if United want to make an argument for one of their players being the among the best in the league, De Ligt has also been making a strong case for himself.
The Dutch defender has been solid for United this season and impressed ex-Red Paul Parker, who believes that he has many admirable attributes.
“I think De Ligt has matured a lot since arriving at Man United, and I consider him to be one of the best defenders in the Premier League. He is good when playing in the middle as he can lead, dictate and communicate very well,” Parker told AceOdds.com.
“De Ligt can do everything. He is good on the ball, he is a big guy who likes to take on challenges and he is very brave. But he is also very controlled, and he doesn’t get caught out of position a lot.
“He is way different from Maguire. De Ligt is structured and can make people follow him, but he does it in a natural way. He is not screaming and waving his arms at people. He takes responsibility.
“He is always trying to do the right thing, and he is really leading in the right way. Man United haven’t had a player like him for many years. After the Everton game I heard people saying that Man United miss Maguire, and I was just thinking to myself… That tells me that people don’t want to improve. What are they thinking?”
Amorim’s update on De Ligt
Unfortunately for United, De Ligt has missed the last couple of games with an injury and Amorim is not expecting the defender back for the game against Bournemouth.
“I think he has something in his back, I don’t know for sure,” the United boss said of De Ligt in his pre-match press conference.
“Sometimes you see it’s not a big injury because he finished the game quite well against Crystal Palace, but he has some pain.
“You sometimes think it will be solved during this week, but sometimes he feels a little bit of pain and we have to be a little careful with that.”
