Diogo Dalot has revealed the ruthless message that Ruben Amorim has delivered to the Manchester United squad following the 2-1 win over Manchester City.

Manchester United produced a sensational 2-1 comeback to defeat Manchester City in an unforgettable Premier League derby at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola’s men opened the scoring in the first-half as Joško Gvardiol rose highest to nod in a header from Kevin De Bruyne’s deflected cross.

In the second half, United grew into the game, dominating possession but struggling to break through City’s resolute defence.

With the clock winding down, Amad Diallo sparked United’s revival. His quick footwork won a late penalty, which Bruno Fernandes calmly converted to level the score with just five minutes remaining.

In stoppage time, Lisandro Martínez produced a moment of brilliance, delivering a pinpoint long ball to Amad. The young winger displayed remarkable composure, rounding Ederson before finishing clinically to complete United’s dramatic turnaround and seal a 2-1 victory.

Dalot reveals Amorim’s ruthless message

Diogo Dalot started once again for United and is becoming another important player under Amorim for the time being.

He does not look at his best in the left wingback position but is ready to work hard and give his best on the pitch.

Speaking to reporters after the game, the Portuguese defender explained exactly what Amorim has told the United dressing room about what he expects.

“The message was clear from the beginning: if you want to succeed and if you want to thrive, then you have to suffer. That’s not just in football but in life,” explained Dalot.

“You have to work hard. If you want to succeed at this club, you have to suffer and if you’re ready to do that with us, we’re going to be a good team. If you’re not, there’s no space for you.”

Garnacho and Rashford an example

It appears that Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford were not following that message in the past week, with both players being left out for the derby.

Others might see that as an example to prove that you have to work hard behind-the-scenes every day at Carrington.

However, it is also important to note that Amorim did not throw either of those players under the bus during his interviews before or after the game.

The 39-year-old will protect these players in the public eye but won’t take any passengers in his team. That is a head coach you would want to fight for.
