Brentford have appointed Keith Andrews as their new head coach while their star man Bryan Mbeumo nears a move to Manchester United.
Manchester United are looking to bring Bryan Mbeumo to Old Trafford this summer to join Matheus Cunha in a new-look attacking unit under Ruben Amorim.
The 25-year-old has been Brentford’s star man over the last year, scoring 20 goals in the Premier League last season, and wants the move to United.
Reports are suggesting that an agreement for a £65 million deal is closing in and then Mbeumo will travel for his United medical next week.
Meanwhile, Brentford have confirmed Keith Andrews as their new head coach this week after Thomas Frank departed for Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.
Andrews has spent the last year as the set-piece coach at the Gtech Community Stadium, and this will be his first managerial role.
Brentford boss Andrews breaks silence amid Mbeumo exit
The former Blackburn Rovers midfielder has broken his silence on his new role during an interview with Brentford’s media channel, where he admitted that he plans to help develop young players.
“It’s a massive advantage to know the players inside out, I’ve got a really good connection with the players,” explained Andrews. “The ceiling is massive in terms of what we can achieve and I’ve got so much belief in them.
“I love being on the grass, I love developing young players, I love seeing the growth in young players as players and as human beings. There’s clear alignment between myself and the football club on that.
“There will be a clear plan to try and develop our talented young players and also our older players, because development doesn’t just stop when you get to a certain age; it’s for every single player, and we’ll support them in every single way we can.”
Unsurprisingly, there was no direct mention of star man Mbeumo although it looks like Andrews will be hoping to develop some younger players to shoulder his influence when he departs.
Mbeumo expected to start United pre-season
United fans could expect Mbeumo’s signing to be announced later next week a couple of days after his medical takes place.
Amorim will want him ready for the first training session at Carrington on the 7 July as the club’s pre-season begins, with an official debut coming shortly afterwards.

Mbeumo will be set to play against Leeds on 19 July in United’s first pre-season friendly of the summer, with Cunha also expected to play in that game.
Both of them will then head out to the United States for the summer tour, with fans hoping that another one or two signings will be joining them by that point in time.
