Fabrizio Romano has revealed some fresh manager details this week as Manchester United continue their search for the next permanent head coach.
Manchester United are searching for a new permanent manager after parting ways with Ruben Amorim earlier this season.
For now, Michael Carrick has taken charge until the end of the campaign and has made an impressive start, recording four victories and a draw. Despite that strong run, the expectation remains that the club will explore other options before making a long-term appointment.
The Reds are likely to target a highly experienced candidate, and Thomas Tuchel has once again been mentioned in connection with the role. He had previously been considered as a potential successor to Erik ten Hag before ultimately taking over as England national football team manager.
However, it has now been confirmed that Tuchel has signed a contract extension keeping him in charge of England through to the 2028 European Championships, effectively ending any possibility of him moving to United.
Romano reveals Man Utd manager details after contract extension
It was somewhat surprising to see that Tuchel had signed a new contract at England this week, not only due to the rumours linking him with United but also because it has come before the summer tournament.
But the news does essentially rule out the ex-Chelsea boss from becoming the next head coach at Old Trafford, and Fabrizio Romano has clarified the details behind the story.
While those at United appreciate Tuchel, Romano has explained how an agreement was never going to be reached with the German boss before the World Cup.
“From Manchester United, there was absolutely a genuine interest in Thomas Tuchel, he is really appreciated by people at INEOS and Manchester United management,” he said on his YouTube channel.
“But I always told you, full focus on the World Cup for Thomas Tuchel, he was never going to agree anything with Manchester United now or before the World Cup, no chance at all.
“He’s really highly rated at Manchester United but nothing has followed up because of Tuchel being fully focused on the World Cup, and now also with the new contract.”
Boost for Carrick
Tuchel is not the only manager to sign a new contract this week, with Carlo Ancelotti also penning new terms with the Brazilian national team.
They are two experienced managers who United would have almost certainly considered for the permanent role.

For Carrick, it is likely a boost for his chances of securing the job that two veteran managers are not going to be in the race.
If the ex-midfielder continues to impress during his interim spell, there will only be a select number of managers who could be viewed as less risky, although the landscape could always change before the summer.
