“#HallOfFame PL candidate! Well deserved legend”, Matic wrote on Instagram. He then added the famous Vidic chant, “Nemanja whoa Nemanja whoa, he comes from Serbia…”
The rest of the list was as follows: Sol Campbell, Jermaine Defoe, Cesc Fabregas, Les Ferdinand, Robbie Fowler, Eden Hazard, David Silva, John Terry, and Yaya Toure.
Vidić’s time at United
Nemanja Vidić’s tenure at Manchester United stands as a testament to defensive excellence and leadership on the football pitch. Signed by Sir Alex Ferguson in 2006 from Spartak Moscow, Vidić quickly established himself as one of the most formidable defenders in the English Premier League.
His partnership with Rio Ferdinand formed the backbone of United’s defence during one of their most successful periods when they won five Premier League titles and the Champions League.
Known for his uncompromising style of play, Vidić was a commanding presence in the heart of United’s defence. His physicality, aerial prowess, and tactical acumen made him a nightmare for opposing strikers. Vidić’s commitment to the cause and willingness to put his body on the line endeared him to fans, earning him the nickname “The Serbian Wall.”
Vidić’s leadership qualities were also evident both on and off the pitch. During his later years at United, he captained the team, guiding them through challenging moments and leading by example. His influence extended beyond the pitch, with teammates and managers alike praising his professionalism and dedication.
Despite facing injuries towards the latter stages of his United career, Vidić’s legacy remained untarnished. His departure from the club in 2014 marked the end of an era, with many considering him one of the greatest defenders to have ever worn the famous red jersey.
Nemanja Vidić’s time at Manchester United will be remembered as a period of defensive dominance characterised by resilience, determination, and an unwavering commitment to success.
