Napoli’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis has released an insulting statement about Manchester United and the Italian club’s pursuit of Alejandro Garnacho.
Manchester United are set to prioritise player sales this summer as Ruben Amorim looks to overhaul his attacking lineup at Old Trafford.
While much of the speculation has centred around the possible exits of Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Jadon Sancho, new reports following the Europa League final suggest that Alejandro Garnacho may also be on the way out.
Garnacho, who appeared visibly frustrated after being limited to just 20 minutes in the defeat to Tottenham in Bilbao, was called out by Amorim in front of the entire squad afterwards, who reportedly told him: “You better pray that you can find a club to sign you.”
The Argentine winger has made 144 appearances for United, tallying 26 goals and 22 assists during his time under Ralf Rangnick, Erik ten Hag, and Amorim.
Napoli president releases insulting statement about United and Garnacho
One of the options for Garnacho this summer is a move to Italian side Napoli, who have been interested in the Argentine winger since January.
It has been reported by the Mirror that they are willing to offer United £45 million for the player this summer which is below his valuation.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has also issued an insulting statement about the pursuit of Garnacho, claiming that the main reason they want to sign him is because he’s at Old Trafford.
“Garnacho’s got pace, flair and potential,” the Napoli chief said when asked about the Premier League winger, as per the Mirror.
“But that’s not even why we want him. We want him because he’s at United. Get him out and he becomes twice the player. There’s a fault at United that I can’t explain”
That is quite insulting to United but something which can’t even be argued against. Scott McTominay was not rated highly by many during his time at United and he’s now become Napoli’s hero.
Garnacho might need to be more realistic this summer
In recent weeks, everything has suggested that Garnacho wants to stay in the Premier League but the Argentine might need to get more realistic.
Chelsea remain an option for him, and his best chance of remaining in England, but that’s mostly because they are buying every winger under the Sun right now.
Other clubs like Manchester City, Tottenham or Liverpool do not need him, while Arsenal are opting for Noni Madueke over someone like Garnacho.
The United winger would probably not want to drop down further to the likes of Bournemouth or Fulham, which means that a move abroad to somewhere like Napoli might be his best option.
While all of the attention is on United with these sales not occurring yet, the players are also being impacted. Garnacho is not yet in team training and should want to find a solution as soon as possible.
