Former Manchester United star Nani has spoken about Manchester United’s start to the Premier League, as well as giving his verdict on Ruben Amorim.
In the early stages of the new Premier League campaign, Manchester United have struggled to get going, with ten points from an available 21, leaving them in tenth.
Ruben Amorim’s side invested heavily in the summer, acquiring four new additions, which caused much optimism. This buzz surrounding the club has subsequently fizzled, however, due to some poor performances.
Despite a win against Sunderland last weekend, the Reds have been incredibly inconsistent, especially considering their recent 3-1 defeat to Bryan Mbeumo’s former club, Brentford.
These mixed results have led to questions being asked of both the players and the manager. Former United star Nani has given his verdict on this, as well as speaking on fellow Portuguese Red Bruno Fernandes.
Nani on Amorim’s position
As reported by GiveMeSport, Nani discussed the United manager at the Portugal Football Summit, and said, “He brings a lot of good things. We have seen it already, he’s trying to put the responsibility, and give the responsibility to the players.
“For them to understand how important to play for that club. How important, how serious it is to be a champion in that club. So every single match. And then, yeah, I think that’s the biggest attribute he can give to the club.
“Because that’s the type of manager the club needs. Someone who gives the right message to the players. And then do the job in the right way. Because I believe it’s a matter of time to everyone start smiling.”
Clearly, Nani believes that people should have patience with the United manager, and he should be allowed time to influence the club over a more sustained period of time.
Nani discusses Fernandes
After briefly touching on the lack of winning mentality currently at the club, Nani then spoke about the United captain, Fernandes, and labelled him as ‘fantastic’, but that he is being let down by the rest of his team.
He said, “Bruno Fernandes is a fantastic player. He’s a player I know very well because I played with him in Sporting. And he had already his appetite for the goals. His ability to score goals is fantastic. He’s a player who gives everything on the field.

“But as we see in the last few years, he couldn’t win any titles because it’s not about one player, it’s about the team. So if you don’t have a team with you on the same level, all is going to be complicated.
“I believe that when the team matches together and starts playing the best football, everyone is going to shine, like Matheus Cunha, Bruno, and Mbeumo. All the players will start showing their talent, and it’s going to be fantastic.”
