One Manchester United star “got his reward” during the victory over FCSB on Thursday, says MUTV pundit Ben Thornley.

Manchester United secured a 2-0 win over FCSB in their final Europa League group match, booking a place in the round of 16.

Ruben Amorim’s side dominated throughout, earning their third consecutive victory for the first time this season. Despite controlling possession and creating chances, they couldn’t find the breakthrough before halftime.

Alejandro Garnacho and Amad came on after the break, injecting pace and urgency. Garnacho hit the post early, and Amad’s quick throw-in led to the opener—Christian Eriksen found Kobbie Mainoo, who set up Diogo Dalot for a simple finish.

Mainoo then sealed the win with a composed strike from Garnacho’s cross. United remained in control, played with confidence, and secured a clean sheet.

Dalot got his reward vs FCSB

Former Manchester United player Ben Thornley was glad to see Dalot get on the scoresheet in the Europa League clash.

The defender scored his first of the season after a difficult period as he has been filling in at left-wingback for Amorim.

His offensive play has been lacking in that position but he popped into the right space at the right moment to slot in Mainoo’s cross on Thursday.

“I’m really pleased for him because he puts so much into games,” Thornley said after the game on MUTV’s matchday review show.

“And he is moved from pillar to post, from one side to the other, but it doesn’t take anything away from him.

“He’s still full of running, full of energy and full of endeavour and today he got his reward and scored his goal.”

United fans have split opinion on Dalot

The United fanbase appear quite split on Dalot, who was the club’s Player of the Year last season, and some want him to leave the club.

Even those who do rate the Portuguese defender admit that the new formation under Amorim does not exactly suit his qualities as much.

He excelled when moving into central areas previously but the United boss now wants those wingbacks to provide width and final third threat, which isn’t usually the better parts of his game.

Interestingly, Noussair Mazraoui has had the same problems as Dalot – with the Moroccon’s form worsening when he is forced to play as one of the wingbacks rather than in the back three.

That would likely be Dalot’s best role in this system too, but there are multiple options for those defensive positions.

No matter what, as Thornley mentions, Dalot continues to work hard and give everything for the team, which is an admirable quality.
