MUTV pundit praises three ‘excellent’ Manchester United stars vs Chelsea, but one of them stood out

One of MUTV’s pundits praised three ‘excellent’ Manchester United players in the 2-1 win over Chelsea but one of them in particular stood out.

Manchester United came out strong, displaying confidence despite a week of criticism for underwhelming displays.

Ruben Amorim’s side pressed with intent from the start, and Chelsea were dealt a huge setback when goalkeeper Robert Sánchez was sent off in the fifth minute for bringing down Bryan Mbeumo outside the area.

United quickly capitalised, with Bruno Fernandes opening the scoring before Casemiro added a second from close range after a scramble in the box.

The momentum shifted just before half-time as Casemiro was shown a second yellow card, leaving United down to ten men.

The second half produced little action until Trevoh Chalobah pulled one back with a header in the 80th minute, but Amorim’s men stayed resilient to see out the win.

In the end, United had to defend well to secure the victory after they were also put down to 10 men and they did that well.

Chelsea’s goal came from one of their only real chances and many felt Harry Maguire would have headed it away if he stayed on.

MUTV pundit Luke Chadwick praised Maguire after the game, as well as his defensive partners Matthijs de Ligt and Luke Shaw, labelling the trio as ‘excellent’ in the clash.

“Harry Maguire came off, he was great today. I though the back three were excellent,” Chadwick said on MUTV’s Matchday Review show.

“De Ligt and Shaw, I thought they were all excellent and really aggressive against good players up there. The red card helped but they were fantastic and gave the team a real solid base to go on and build into the game.”

De Ligt stood out for United vs Chelsea

The three defenders were all really solid throughout the game but De Ligt was the clear standout in the backline across the game.

Starting as the right-sided centre-back, the Dutchman showed immense aggression and fight to ensure that he was stepping into midfield to stop Chelsea progressing, while also helping the attack in possession.

It felt like he was winning every duel and then he went back into the centre late in the game and continued to make vital interceptions to stop Chelsea equalising.

The Dutchman was nominated for the club’s Player of the Month for August and while he did not win the award – which was given to Bryan Mbeumo – the defender has shown a solid level so far this term.

He will be hoping to sustain this form going forward and help United get more points on the board ahead of the October international break.
