MUTV pundit praised ‘absolutely outrageous’ Man Utd star, but Ruben Amorim ignored him vs Everton

One MUTV pundit praised an ‘absolutely outrageous’ Manchester United star ahead of the game against Everton but he was ignored by Ruben Amorim.

Manchester United fell to their first Premier League defeat in six matches as Everton claimed a hard-fought 1–0 win at Old Trafford on Monday night.

United saw more of the ball early on, but Everton carried the greater threat, and the visitors were down to ten men inside a quarter of an hour after Idrissa Gana Gueye’s collision with teammate Michael Keane.

Despite having the extra player, Rúben Amorim’s side struggled to inject any real creativity, and a quality finish from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall gave David Moyes’ men the advantage. United tried to lift their intensity after conceding, but the hosts still trailed at half-time.

Mason Mount entered the action after the break, soon followed by Kobbie Mainoo and Diogo Dalot, yet Everton’s structure remained solid. In the final twenty minutes, Bryan Mbeumo, Bruno Fernandes, and United’s main attackers pushed for an equaliser, with Joshua Zirkzee drawing an excellent save from Jordan Pickford.

As stoppage time approached, Everton managed proceedings with composure, seeing out the match to earn a valuable and well-merited three points.

Shea Lacey was included in the United squad for the very first time against the Toffees after the youngster impressed in first-team training.

The left-footed winger has been one of the most exciting talents in the academy for several years but injuries had impacted his development.

Speaking to MUTV ahead of the game, presenter Liam Bradford issued praise for Lacey after it was confirmed he was in the squad.

“Mercurial kind of player, a bit of a maverick. You never really know what he’s going to turn up and do,” he said.

“Sometimes, some of the stuff is absolutely outrageous.”

Lacey wasn’t trusted vs Everton

Even though Lacey is extremely talented, Amorim overlooked him as an option to turn the game around at Old Trafford on Monday night.

That wouldn’t always be a big deal as it was his first taste of a matchday squad but the circumstances made things worse.

Everton were down to 10 men and simply defending their box for the last 20 minutes. Bringing someone like Diogo Dalot on was never going to help United score.

Lacey might be inexperienced but he has the tools to help a team in that kind of situation and it was a shame that he was not trusted to come on.
