Nottingham Forest have given an update on Morgan Gibbs-White as they prepare to face Rúben Amorim’s Manchester United in the Premier League.
After a two-week pause for international fixtures, Rúben Amorim’s Manchester United are back in Premier League action on Tuesday, 1 April, as they travel to face Nottingham Forest.
United were flying before the break, with back-to-back wins over Real Sociedad, a dominant 3-0 victory against Leicester City, and a 1-1 draw against Arsenal.
Bruno Fernandes has been in red-hot form, scoring five goals and providing two assists in his last three appearances under Amorim.
The trip to Forest offers a perfect opportunity for United to continue their fine run, though Amorim will also be keeping an eye on the challenges ahead — a Manchester Derby and a two-legged Europa League quarter-final against Olympique Lyonnais.
Gibbs-White injury assessment given
While United have seen several injured players return to duty in the last few days, Forest have been hit with a series of injury blows.
Morgan Gibbs-White, who has been a superstar for Forest this season, had to hobble off during their penalty shootout victory over Brighton on Saturday evening, with manager Nuno Espírito Santo confirming he had sustained an injury after colliding with a goal post.
“We are going to assess him. He had a big contact against the post. His leg was not okay, and he was struggling. In the final minutes, you saw we were suffering,” said the Forest coach after the fixture.
“We were on the ropes, so we decided to turn to Morato to see if we could hold on for penalties.”
A second Forest star ruled out
Gibbs-White is not the only player who has Forest’s fitness team sweating, with striker Chris Wood also unlikely to be able to start.
Wood has scored 18 goals this season, all coming in 29 Premier League appearances, but sustained a hip injury with New Zealand and missed the tie against Brighton.
“Let’s wait and see. It is going to be day by day we have to assess him,” The Portuguese manager said of Wood. “It is all about the pain he has. It was a big impact on his hip and it is very painful.
“We have to assess him. We are gutted that Chris is not here with us. I cannot answer that. I don’t know, I’m not sure. It is going to be day by day.”
