Brighton’s CEO Paul Barber has ruled out a Manchester United transfer for one ‘unbelievable’ star in January.

Manchester United appointed Ruben Amorim as their new head coach earlier this month and he has since taken charge of two games.

The 39-year-old has been assessing his squad and their suitability to his long-term project at Old Trafford.

Many have suggested that more firepower upfront is needed, with the team struggling to score goals, and several strikers have been linked.

Reports earlier this week claimed that Brighton were open to letting striker Evan Ferguson leave the club on loan in the January transfer window.

Ferguson has started just one Premier League goal this term after two impressive campaigns in the division beforehand. He was labelled as ‘incredible’ by his former teammates.

The Irish forward had already been linked to an Old Trafford move. He is a boyhood United fan and this news led to those rumours picking up again.

However, Brighton’s CEO Paul Barber has since ruled out any mid-season move for the 20-year-old

Speaking to talkSPORT this week, Barber explained that an exit will not be happening. “Evan’s a really important part of the squad,” he said.

“Sometimes mischievous rumours emerge from various strange places and one or two journalists will buy into those ideas, put out there by one or two other clubs perhaps in some cases.

“But Evan’s very happy, we’ve very happy with Evan, we expect him to be an important of the squad throughout the season.

“Unfortunately, sometimes in this business we know that the rumour mill and the noise on the outside is stuff you have to ignore.”

United fans will not be too bothered about this. They already have two unproven centre-forwards in Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

While Ferguson is an excellent talent, he is not yet the ready-made product and a loan deal makes little sense for those at United.

Højlund scored twice in his first start under new boss Amorim and the hope is that he can improve across the course of the season under the Portuguese head coach.
