Mikel Arteta’s full assessment of “remarkable” Ayden Heaven will excite Manchester United fans
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has already provided a glowing reference for Ayden Heaven ahead of his move to Manchester United.
Manchester United have yet to confirm any incoming signings this transfer window, despite several players departing on loan.
Antony has joined Real Betis, while young talents like Ethan Wheatley and Ethan Ennis have moved to lower-league clubs in search of regular game time.
The club is actively pursuing new additions and has reportedly reached an agreement to sign Patrick Dorgu from Lecce for approximately £25 million.
In addition, United have seized an opportunity in the market to secure highly-rated Arsenal defender Ayden Heaven.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Heaven has agreed to terms with United after rejecting both a contract extension from Arsenal and an offer from Eintracht Frankfurt.
The 18-year-old centre-back, who made his first-team debut for Arsenal earlier this season, is expected to undergo a medical soon to complete a surprising move to Old Trafford.
Arteta’s assessment of “remarkable” Heaven
Heaven is being considered as a first-team signing for Amorim’s squad and is expected to provide competition to Lisandro Martínez at left centre-back.
The Reds faced the young defender in pre-season when the two Premier League clubs clashed in the United States.
Heaven, who was 17 at the time, made a mistake for Rasmus Højlund’s opener in the game but recovered well and produced a solid performance afterwards.
Mikel Arteta was full of praise for the “remarkable” teenager, who he thought showed all of the necessary attributes needed to recover from the mistake.
“I don’t know how many players are able to do that on a stage like this [at his age]. He’s lost a duel against [Rasmus Hojlund], one of the strongest and fastest players in the world, it can happen,” the Spaniard said.
“But the reaction afterwards, the composure, the quality, the body language that he had were all remarkable. I’m really happy with him.”
United fans will be excited to see what Heaven can offer, with the youngster set to be involved with the first-team immediately after joining.
He is a player who is very impressive on the ball, having previously played in midfield, and has the athleticism to make the jump up to senior football.
Chido Obi Martin will be happy to see his former teammate join the club after he made the same move from Arsenal earlier this season.
