Mikel Arteta provides huge Arsenal injury update for Manchester United clash after Viktor Gyokeres warning

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided a huge injury update ahead of their opening day clash against Manchester United in the Premier League.

After a five-game pre-season spanning Sweden, the United States, and Old Trafford, Manchester United are ready to kick off their 2025/26 Premier League campaign.

Ruben Amorim’s side head into the new campaign unbeaten in pre-season, having recorded victories over West Ham and Bournemouth and played out draws with Leeds United, Everton, and Fiorentina.

Attention now turns to a blockbuster opening-day clash against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday, 17 August. The fixture promises plenty of intrigue, with high-profile debuts on both sides.

For United, Benjamin Šeško, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo are all in line for their first competitive outings, while Arsenal could hand starts to Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, and Noni Madueke as Mikel Arteta’s new-look side takes shape.

There have been some injury concerns within both camps heading into the fixture, and Arteta has provided the latest on his team’s situation.

Arteta provides huge Arsenal injury update for United clash

After warning United about Gyokeres’ abilities on the weekend, Arteta has provided an injury update on Leandro Trossard after he missed Arsenal’s final two pre-season fixtures with a groin injury.

The Spanish boss is confident that Trossard will be fit enough to make the squad against United, explaining: “I think he’s going to be [okay] in a few days, yes, a little niggle in the groin. But he should be fine.”

It is unlikely that the Belgian starts the game, with Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli as options, but he will be a useful player for Arteta to use off the bench if needed.

Otherwise, Arsenal’s camp is very healthy, with Gabriel Jesus the only high profile absence as he continues to recover from a serious knee injury.

United receive their own injury boost

Meanwhile, United are hoping that Šeško will be fit enough to start the clash after getting a full week of training under his belt.

While most of the spotlight is on United’s latest signing, the newest training photos from Carrington brought a welcome boost for Amorim, with two injured players back in action.

Joshua Zirkzee and André Onana both took part in the session, with the latter expected to start against Arsenal. Zirkzee’s involvement in the matchday squad, however, remains uncertain as he continues his recovery.

Noussair Mazraoui is still sidelined after sustaining an injury during pre-season and is unlikely to be available for the Gunners clash.
