Mikel Arteta explains why Ruben Amorim’s job at Manchester United is “a totally different dimension”
Manchester United are set to face Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal side at the Emirates Stadium in the FA Cup third-round this weekend.
Manchester United turn their focus to the the cup competition which provided the team great joy last season when they beat Manchester City in the final at Wembley.
Ruben Amorim’s team faces a tough third-round clash against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium to begin their FA Cup defence.
The Reds were beaten 2-0 by Arsenal last month, conceding both goals from Arteta’s well-known set-piece routines.
Following a spirited performance against Liverpool last weekend, Amorim will be determined that his team can move past the disappointed form seen previously.
Arteta explains difficult aspect of Amorim’s job at United
Arsenal boss Arteta knows all about the difficulties of coming into a broken club and trying to turn things around.
The Spaniard joined the Gunners as manager mid-way through the 2019/20 campaign and had to completely change the club around before they were able to become competitive again.
Asked about the difficulties of turning a club’s fortunes around when appointed mid-season, Arteta explained that there is a clear distinction when considering the manager’s tasks.
For some, they are simply coming in to improve performances of certain players and get the team playing better as quickly as possible. Other times, Arteta says they need to “transform the football club”.
This is exactly what Amorim is planning to do and Arteta suggests that it is a much greater task than simply taking over of any team as manager.
“Every manager, when he is appointed, [it] is for a reason, but the reasons can be different,: began the 42-year-old in his latest press conference.
“Sometimes it’s just to improve a football team and get more performance out of certain players, sometimes it’s to transform the football club.

“That’s a totally different dimension of a job, and if I have to relate to mine at that time, it was more towards that than the previous one I mentioned.”
