“I don’t like…” Michael Owen agrees with what Gary Neville said is the best part about Rúben Amorim

Michael Owen has agreed with Gary Neville’s assessment of Rúben Amorim following Manchester United’s loss against Tottenham Hotspur.
Manchester United fell to yet another defeat as James Maddison’s first-half strike earned Tottenham Hotspur a 1-0 victory in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Spurs controlled possession early, but United carved out the first real chances, with Rasmus Højlund, Alejandro Garnacho, and Diogo Dalot all going close within the opening ten minutes. However, Tottenham capitalised soon after, with Maddison pouncing on a rebound to put his side ahead.
United pushed for an equaliser but lacked a clinical edge, heading into the break a goal down. They came out with more urgency in the second half, yet their struggles in front of goal continued as they failed to break down a resolute Spurs defence.
As the game entered the final 20 minutes, Tottenham regained control, but United kept pressing. Garnacho and Joshua Zirkzee both had late opportunities, yet crucial mistakes and a lack of composure in key moments meant Rúben Amorim’s side left North London empty-handed once again.
Owen hands verdict on Amorim
Former United striker Michael Owen was in the studio with Premier League Productions as they broke down what happened against Tottenham.
Owen explained after the result that he is worried about his former club. He explained that although he likes what Amorim has been saying and how he carries himself, the on-pitch performances are dire.
“It was a game lacking quality, with two average teams, but it’s a huge result for Spurs,” he told Premier League Productions.
“It’s not getting any better for Manchester United, and they don’t look like a team at all. I like the manager, I like what he says and his demeanour, but I don’t like his team, and it’s hard to see it getting any better.”
Owen agrees with Neville’s take
Although they were working in separate studios, Owen and former club captain Gary Neville echoed the same thoughts.

Neville explained to Sky Sports after the result that he feels the “best thing” about Amorim is his press conferences and off-field communication, while the results and performances on the pitch have been poor.
“The best thing under Rúben Amorim so far has been his press conferences, the way he communicates his vision and his idea, and that he wants to succeed at Man United,” Neville explained to Sky Sports.
“I don’t think there’s anything on the pitch that I’ve seen so far, either in results or performances, that tell me that we’re watching a really good team. We’re not. It’s a really poor team, this United team. But even if it’s a poor team, there are ways in which to make even a poor team look better. Are they there?
“He has died in a ditch in respect of when he said very early on, ‘I’m not going to change my idea’, so now he can’t.
“And that’s, I suppose, an issue in some ways, because I do think there were probably, with those 11 players they had out on the pitch, they had a better way of probably getting them into a system which would have meant they’d have felt more comfortable.”
