Michael Carrick praises ‘ruthless’ Man Utd star and ‘dangerous’ duo vs Everton, “I’m delighted with…”

Michael Carrick has waxed lyrical about three Manchester United stars following their 1-0 Premier League win against Everton on Monday evening.

Michael Carrick’s side picked up a crucial three points as a loan goal from Benjamin Šeško secured a 1-0 win for Manchester United against Everton on Monday night.

The game began at a high tempo, with both teams creating chances. Persistent drizzle made conditions difficult, resulting in a scrappy and slippery contest, but neither side found a breakthrough before half-time.

Manchester United started the second half on the front foot, and Šeško was soon introduced in place of Amad. Everton grew into the game as the half wore on, yet it was the Slovenian who made the difference, striking with 20 minutes left to give Manchester United the lead.

The hosts piled on the pressure late on, but Senne Lammens produced a series of excellent saves and confident claims to protect the advantage. Carrick’s men held firm at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, climbing to fourth in the table.

Carrick full of praise for Šeško’s goal

Some were surprised to see that Šeško had not been handed his first start under Carrick following his five goals in his last six games. However, the Slovenian has stayed professional and helped the team, scoring an emphatic goal on Monday night.

“Great finish, it was a ruthless finish, I like the way he put it away with real confidence,” Carrick said after the game, speaking with Match of the Day.

“Great play from Matheus [Cunha] and Bryan [Mbeumo] to set it up, we have the players to play on the break. Delighted for Ben again, coming on and making the difference.”

Speaking to Sky Sports, Carrick continued his Šeško praise, stating: “It was a fabulous goal. Ben is in a good place at the moment and we’ve had some really good talks about it.

“He’s patient and understands that. He’s going to be a big player for us for a long period of time, I’m sure of that. We’ve got to manage that.”

Plenty of love for Cunha and Lammens, too

During his interview with MOTD, the United gaffer continued to speak about his other players, highlighting the “dangerous” Cunha and singling out goalkeeper Lammens for his composure under pressure.

“He had to defend the second half, Matheus, and he did it really well,” Carrick said of the Brazilian. “It was some pass over the top [for the goal].

“We needed a whole team performance in terms of the pressure Everton put us under, and the boys did it. If you do, you get rewards because we’ve got dangerous players.

On Lammens, he said: “He made a couple really good saves, he looked calm and composed in a tough environment. A lot of corners coming in under his crossbar, didn’t get flustered, took some good chances and clean hands. He was immense for us tonight.”
