Michael Carrick issues Man Utd injury update as “important” star not in training vs Tottenham (Premier League)

Michael Carrick has issued the latest on his Manchester United team as they welcome Tottenham to Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Michael Carrick will be hoping to keep Manchester United’s impressive momentum going when Tottenham Hotspur make the trip to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Since the former United midfielder took charge, his side have secured notable victories over Manchester City, Arsenal, and Fulham, with Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Bruno Fernandes all rediscovering their best form.

United are in the thick of the race for a Champions League spot and currently sit fourth in the table, so Spurs’ visit represents another strong opportunity to claim three points and keep their attack firing.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are facing a tougher spell. Although they earned a 2-2 draw with City last weekend, they remain 14th in the Premier League standings. When the teams met earlier this season in North London, Matthijs de Ligt scored late on to snatch a 2-2 draw for United.

Carrick issues United injury latest

When United welcomed Fulham to Manchester last week, the only fresh injury doubt that was noted was Mason Mount not arriving with the squad. De Ligt was also not with the side, but this was expected, with the defender currently nursing and recovering from a back injury sustained in late November.

Carrick confirmed ahead of kick-off that the “important” midfielder had suffered a small knock in training, but was due to return very soon. But, he was not spotted with the squad for the club’s live coverage of their Wednesday morning training session.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon ahead of the Tottenham tie, Carrick was asked for the latest injury news on his squad.

“Mason [Mount will return] sooner,” he explained. “He’s not too far away. We’re hopeful it won’t be too long. Matta [De Ligt] is working his way back, taking his steps and improving and being really positive.”

Tottenham in a horrid injury spot

While United are dealing with only a small number of absentees, Tottenham look set to be without at least nine players for the match. James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski are both sidelined with knee injuries, while Ben Davies is out with an ankle issue. All three are facing lengthy spells on the sidelines.

Lucas Bergvall is nursing an ankle problem, Rodrigo Bentancur has a hamstring injury, and Mohammed Kudus is struggling with a thigh issue, with none of them expected back before April.

Richarlison and Pedro Porro are also unavailable and are not due to return until later in February, while Kevin Danso is out with a toe injury and has no clear comeback date.

There is some positive news for Thomas Frank, though. Despite recent doubts, Dominic Solanke, Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, and Djed Spence are all expected to be fit enough to travel for the game at United. A more detailed fitness update on Tottenham’s squad should arrive on Friday.
