Michael Carrick handed fresh selection headache vs Everton after Man Utd’s West Ham draw

Benjamin Šeško has provided Manchester United manager, Michael Carrick, with a selection dilemma following his late leveller in the Reds’ draw with West Ham United.

On Tuesday night, Manchester United travelled to London to face a relegation-threatened West Ham United side, as Michael Carrick’s outfit sought their fifth successive Premier League victory.

From the off, it appeared as if the Reds would have a tough test on their hands, as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side fought tooth and nail, before eventually being rewarded in the 50th minute through a Thomas Soucek finish.

United battled their way back into the game and finally managed to grab their equaliser in the dying embers, with substitute Benjamin Šeško getting on the end of a Bryan Mbeumo cross.

The Slovenian forward has helped his side with a late goal in each of the Reds’ last two games, and may have provided Carrick with a dilemma heading into their next trip to Everton.

Carrick’s selection headache

Despite only playing the final twenty minutes of United’s 1-1 draw to The Hammers, Šeško made a tremendous impact and provided some much-needed presence in the opposing box.

The Reds’ attack has looked incredibly fluid in recent weeks, as evidenced by their 10 goals in their last four victories; however, until Šeško’s introduction, it failed to impress at the London Stadium.

Carrick’s attack has remained relatively unchanged so far during his stint as United’s interim manager, though tonight’s performance may have given him some food for thought.

Against a more defensive opponent, Mbeumo struggled to influence proceedings through the middle, with his assist coming once he had been moved back out to the wing, whilst Šeško thrived in the physical battle.

Šeško found his role?

The question that will surround United ahead of their next test at the Hill Dickinson Stadium will be whether Šeško moves into the starting XI or is kept as an impact substitute.

Given his recent contributions, it seems only fair that the young striker is granted a start against Everton, as he will be oozing with confidence.

Not only this, but the Toffees are one of the league’s most notoriously physical sides, which, as proven against West Ham, may nullify United’s relatively short attack.

The 22-year-old has surely done enough in his past couple of performances to earn a start in the Reds’ next game, but then the question becomes, which of Mbeumo and Amad drops out of the side?
