Micah Richards and Gary Lineker heap praise on “really, really impressive” Senne Lammens

After his recent Manchester United performances, Senne Lammens has deservedly been praised by Gary Lineker and Micah Richards.

Rightfully so, a lot of credit has been given to Manchester United’s new forward line for their impressive performances this season.

After scoring just 44 goals last season, the club brought in Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Šeško, who have a combined 23 goals and six assists so far this season to lift the side to the third-highest goal scorers in the league with 50, behind Man City and Arsenal.

One other key signing they made last summer was the relatively unknown 23-year-old Belgian goalkeeper, Senne Lammens, who had made just over 50 appearances for Royal Antwerp before making the switch to Manchester.

Under Michael Carrick, the young keeper has gone from strength to strength, keeping three clean sheets in the Premier League in the seven matches that Carrick has overseen, including a clean sheet in the side’s dominant 2-0 win over Man City.

Lammens’ impressive debut season

While it took a while for Lammens to make his debut, once he made his first start against Sunderland, keeping a clean sheet in the process, he never looked back and quickly became United’s No.1.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football, Micah Richards singled out Lammens after the side’s 2-1 comeback victory over Crystal Palace.

“Another player we have to applaud before we move on, guys, is the goalkeeper, Lammens.

“You know when the talk is not about the goalkeeper, you know the goalkeeper is doing a good job.

“He rarely makes a mistake. He keeps everything simple.”

Lammens brings much-needed calmness to the backline

Lammens has progressed impressively since making his first start at Old Trafford, arguably having his best performance of the season against Everton, where he made several key stops.

What was more impressive, however, was his ability to deal with Everton’s extremely physical corner routine superbly, handling all 10 of Everton’s corners very well. The likes of Andre Onana and Altay Bayındır have struggled with these types of situations in the past.

Under the recent keepers, as soon as the ball got close to the penalty area, there was an instant air of nervousness that they would make some kind of error. However, the Belgian international has come in with great confidence, and it has rubbed off on the backline, with the defenders being able to show faith in the 23-year-old’s ability on the ball and ability under pressure.

Lineker noticed the keeper’s calmness, saying, “But no, I think he’s been really, really impressive, he’s got a calmness about him as well.”
